My blood is pounding so loud in my head, I can barely concentrate on the dire news Patrick is trying to share with me. “Wait, what does it say?”

His concerned gaze is more than I can bear. Instead, I rush past him, wearing the workout clothes he loaned me yesterday, to see for myself what the madman has written on my car’s front window.

The morning dew on the glass has made the bright red letters run, like creepy, bloody trails. I stare at my car for a long moment as the message swirls before my eyes.

My lips move as I slowly and quietly read the words out loud. “Save a horse. Ride a cop.”

When comprehension finally dawns in my muddled brain, I turn wide eyes up to Patrick before screeching, “He saw us having sex!”

I’d been hoping Patrick would put forth some type of believable denial, so the grim nod he gives me ices my veins.

The blood drains from my head as I think about some sicko watching me happily, unsuspectingly, bounce on Patrick’s manhood.

I must look as pale and unsteady as I feel because Patrick rushes forward to place a steadying arm around me before saying, “Yes, it’s possible that he saw us, or perhaps he simply noticed my car here and made assumptions about what was happening inside.”

As improbable as that scenario is, I latch onto it, hoping with all my might that my stalker hasn’t gone so far as to spy on me during the intimate, private moments Patrick and I shared this morning. The mere idea of a voyeur seeing what was intended only for Patrick’s eyes makes my stomach churn like it’s flipping inside out.

“I don’t want you to be here alone today. Is there someone you can have come over, or shall I call my chief to let him know I won’t be available for my shift today?”

Patrick gives me an expectant look. His obvious concern for my safety and wellbeing would be touching, if I wasn’t so distraught. As things are, I struggle to even process his simple question.

I evidently take too long to answer because Patrick says, “I’ll call Chief.”

He’s already turning to place the call when I give a half-hearted objection, which he ignores. I truly hate for him to miss work for me, but I also really don’t want him to leave.

Once his call is finished, guilt nearly overwhelms me. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have let you do that for me.”

Patrick rushes to me and wraps me in his solid embrace. I lean my head on his strong shoulder and sink into him as he assures me, “You have absolutely nothing to apologize for. This maniac is the one to blame. I promise we’ll catch him, but in the meantime, there’s something I want to do with you today.”

My curiosity is immediately piqued. As much as I’d like for Patrick to take me back to bed and ravage my body all day long, the fear that we are constantly being watched is nearly overwhelming.
